Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Joe Bromehead, Ben Van der Velde, and host Rob Mulholland
Replacing Steve Harris:
A background involving time spent as a cage fighter, boxer, bouncer, fire-fighter and dedicated family man has produced a completely original and extremely funny comedian in Joe Bromehead. Happy to go to any lengths to ensure everyone has a great night, Joe continually pushes the boundaries to excite and endear audiences world wide.
Energetic, quick witted and naturally funny, Joe combines a natural likability with cheeky audience banter and silly audience participation to create a warm and energy charged atmosphere. It's these talents that see Joe regularly booked for many of the biggest clubs in the UK, as well as performing at venues overseas and being booked to perform to 100,000 people for an X Factor finalist charity concert.
“...his commitment to a joke can’t be faulted, as he goes well beyond the call of duty for a laugh” - Chortle
“From his first word, Bromehead’s cheeky persona and brilliantly committed prop gags were a winner with the crowd” - Giggle Beats
“I've never seen anything like it... In all my years as a comedy fan and then promoter I have never seen an act go down so well” - Nottingham Comedy Festival
Ben Van der Velde
Ben Van der Velde is a stand-up comedian, actor, improviser and presenter, who, over the past few years, has spread joy and nonsense to all four corners of the British Isles, as well as Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Norway.
He is a regular host and act for many respected British comedy clubs, as well as hosting stages for Bestival, Festival No.6 and Sunday Papers Live. He also has experience of performing at RAF bases, large corporate events, hosting comedy workshops, and doing audience warm-up for Deal Or No Deal.
Ben is a also regular performer at the Edinburgh Festival, where he has performed three critically-acclaimed shows: Chain Letter, Strudelhead and Barbarians. In 2016 his show received 5 and 4 star reviews, whilst several of the jokes made it into lists of ‘Best Joke at the Fringe’ compiled by The Scotsman, i-News and The Huffington Post.
“Whipsharp... with an air of mischievous mayhem... his hit rate is impressive, while his in-the-moment style creates a buzz of excitement in the room” - Chortle
“Wonderfully improvised riffs showcasing his impressive spontaneity and sharp tongue” - Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“On flights of fancy, he pushes ideas to extremes and displays a crackling, spontaneous energy in which we’re swept up” - Fest
One of the fastest rising new comedians on the circuit, Rob Mulholland fell into comedy after finding a flyer looking for acts to appear at Harrogate Comedy Festival on the ground outside his front door. In the two years since, he has clocked up a huge amount of gigs all over the country ranging from tiny pubs to massive theatres (even performing to 2,000 bikers at an outdoor festival!), and can now be seen most weekends in some of the biggest comedy clubs in the country.
Just as at home as an act or compere, Rob mixes cheeky audience banter with his intricately woven, gag-packed stories; adding a touch of the absurd to his askance glance at everyday life. Rob is 17 feet tall, made of steel and can jump over a mini cooper from a standing start.
Rob is the current Hilarity Bites New Act of the Year, and after finishing runner-up in this year’s Great Yorkshire Fringe New Act of the Year competition has awarded himself the title of "Yorkshire’s Funniest Non-Musical Comedian". He was one half of the anarchic, late-night, yurt-based show #BlurredMinds at the 2015 Edinburgh festival and premiered his first solo show ‘Champion of Comedy’ at the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2016.
