Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Jessica Fostekew, Penella Mellor, and host Phil Chapman
Jessica has been performing comedy and working as a comedy writer and actress since 2005. In early 2008 she hit the UK stand up circuit, and in March 2012 she perfromed stand up on Stephen K Amos' BBC Radio 4 show. Jess is a regular headliner at many of the most prestigious clubs in the UK, and performed her debut hour at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011, which sold out, got in The Independent Top Ten Edinburgh Newcomers 2011 and also the Amused Moose Laughter Awards Top Ten.
Jess is also a writer on Channel 4's Stand Up For the Week and on BBC Radio 4's 'The Now Show' and is developing various TV pilots, a number of shorts and a radio play, in addition to writing set-pieces for other comedy actors. Meanwhile, she's also been seen on screen, most noticeably in BBC comedy Psychoville.
“Fostekew is a hugely engaging presence and there's something reassuringly honest about her” - Fest
“Sharp wit and energetic anecdotes” - The List
“Intensely funny... Fireball of fun” - Time Out
Penella Mellor is not a good grown up but she is a multi award winning comedian who is taking over the comedy world with her delightfully dark material.
Named Nando’s Comedian of the Year and champion of the coveted Beat the Frog World Series title in 2013. Finalist in The Amused Moose Laugh Off competition and Semi finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2014. Penella was also nominated for The Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year Award in 2015.
Original, dark, effortless. Think Mary Poppins meets Kill Bill.
“Top Comic in waiting” - Chortle
“One of the most exciting newcomers around” - Jason Manford
“You should see Mellor on the telly before very long” - Northern Soul
Originally from Middlesbrough, and now living in Liverpool, via Reading and Texas, Phil began performing comedy at a local Chinese restaurant! He was asked to leave soon into the performance, but such was the reaction of the crowd - a rapturous round of applause (in hindsight, this may have been more for the management although no one can really confirm anything) - he decided to pursue a career via more conventional means.
He continued performing around the North of England, where he placed second in many comedy competitions. Given his consistency, and undeterred by his near brushes with success, he decided to carry on performing and has now established himself as a regular in many clubs around the country, and he is renowned for his ability to win over any audience.
From his carefully crafted gags, to his engaging anecdotes, his material and stage presence ensure he is a big hit wherever he's playing.
“An instant hit” - Liverpool Echo
“A good stage presence, with the jokes to match” - Giggle Beats
“Fearless as well as bloody funny” - Smacked Arse Comedy
This show will also feature a newer act in the middle.
