Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Richard Morton, James Meehan, and host Will Duggan

Show details:

Richard Morton

Richard Morton

Described as "possibly Newcastle's finest export since the famous brown ale" and certainly more consistent than its football team, Richard Morton has nailed the twin talents of musicianship and comedy into one perfectly suited package. This livewire Geordie comic is full of surprises and manic energy, bounding around the stage like an overgrown child on a massive sugar rush.

A former winner of Time Out Comedian of the Year, Richard Morton’s amiable manner belies a razor sharp talent and with some acutely witty and well-defined and varied observations, he tackles a plethora of life's situations in gags, tales, and some of his hilarious and occasional risque songs. No subject matter is clearly safe from being put to a tune.

A favourite of Channel 5 from its inception, he even hosted his own show Richard Morton Live At The Comedy Store, as well as appearing on many of its regular staples like The Jack Docherty Chat Show, Live & Dangerous, Bring Me The Head Of Light Entertainment, and the monster that is Night Fever, alongside living legend Suggs. Richard Morton also hosted two quiz series Move On Up, and Win Beadle’s Money.

Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominee 2014 (Best Newcomer for Gein's Family Giftshop)

Offbeat, aloof, yet delightfully likeable, James Meehan is a current rising star of the British comedy scene. Unique and intelligent material sets him apart as a stand- up, with his writing chops proven once more as one fourth of the multi-award winning sketch group Gein’s Family Giftshop.

A move to Manchester saw James focus on comedy, embarking on a degree in contemporary theatre at Salford University, and it was here he met his fellow Gein’s Family Giftshop members. A regular on the Manchester comedy circuit since 2009, James threw himself into the City’s thriving stand up scene and just three years later his talent was recognized a runner up in Preston Comedian of the Year.

In 2013 James joined Phil Ellis as a cast member and writer on his critically acclaimed Edinburgh show “Unplanned Orphan”. In 2014, James was part of the cast of Phil Ellis’ Funz and Gamez, which won the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award Panel Prize, and in the same year Gein’s Family Giftshop were nominees for the Best Newcomer Award at The Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
