SUMMARY:Darlington\, March 13th 2020
DESCRIPTION:Charity show in aid of Children with Cancer\nHilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Christian Reilly\, Sam Gore\, and host Gavin Webster\nShow details:\n \nChristian Reilly\nChristian Reilly is both a Perrier and Chortle award-winning musical comedian with “sex\, politics and rock 'n' roll” (The Scotsman) in the key of grrr. \nAs a former integral part of the Perrier award-winning show Otis Lee Crenshaw and the Black Liars\, with comic/songster Rich Hall\, Christian's career has taken him around the world three times. On his way\, he received accolades at international festivals and numerous network TV credits in the USA\, Australia\, New Zealand and Britain. \nNow a solo stand-up performer\, and headlining all the major comedy venues in his own right\, Christian uses his dynamic guitar and vocal skills to target histrionic rock bands\, musical theatre and morose indie musicians. He wrote and performed for 'That Was Then This Is Now' (BBC Radio 2) as musical counterpart to Richard Herring and Emma Kennedy\, as well as giving his improvisation skills an outing on Radio 2's 'Jammin'. \n“Blisteringly funny songs” - The Stage \n“If you’re a fan of Bill Bailey or Rich Hall\, you’re a Christian Reilly fan already” - The Guardian \n“The funniest songs I’ve heard in a long time” - The Scotsman \n  \n \nSam Gore\nA confident and original young act with a brilliant command of language\, Sam’s been wowing crowds and rapidly climbing the comedy ladder. Having cemented his position as one of the best new performers on the circuit with no less than five New Act of the Year titles (including the Hilarity Bites title in 2008)\, he’s gone on to impress everywhere from weekend clubs to music festivals\, biker rallies and theatres. \nSam made his solo debut at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2015\, winning plaudits from audiences for his show "The Cryptid Crossword"\, whilst also appearing in the highly regarded AAA Comedy showcase at The Pleasance. In 2010 Sam appeared in the double-header show A Calculated Risk as part of the Free Festival. In 2011 he returned to the Fringe as part of the Amused Moose Laugh-Off showcase\, having won his way through to the final of that competition as well. Sam is also a hugely accomplished writer\, plying his trade on shows such as Russell Howard's Good News and Chris Addison's Show & Tell. \n“The jokes are as cruel as they are funny\, i.e. very... a class act indeed” - Chortle \n“Superbly crafted gags that showcase a vivid use of imagery and language... great wordplay\, refreshing honesty and a wonderfully dark view of life” - Giggle Beats \n  \nReplacing Jonathan Mayor:\n \nGavin Webster\n2014 Comedian's Comedian of the Year winner\nGavin Webster has been on the rise. He’s been on the rise for over twenty years. After making his modest debut in a pub in Gateshead in February 1993 he's done about three thousand gigs from Aberdeen to Abu Dhabi\, Manchester to Melbourne and Hartlepool to Hong Kong. \nGavin Webster's shows are high octane\, close to the bone and quick fire\, with many gag to the minute routines\, peppered with sardonic songs that are finished by the time you decide you need to complain about them. Black humour\, observations and moronic jokes complete the unique and stand-alone experience of seeing this greatly original\, angry comedian. \nVery much the last ever punk rocker\, people that take to Gavin Webster are fans for life and stay loyal to him throughout. His unique style has brought him praise and attention from throughout the national media\, as well as many roles on TV and radio\, including an appearance on Never Mind The Buzzcocks. \n“Funny\, clever and as brilliantly observed as you’ll find” - The Scotsman \n“Palpably funny” - ★★★★★ - Herald \n“His daftness is little short of surreal genius” - The Stage \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle. \n  \n\nOver the last 30 years Children with Cancer UK has funded over 200 research projects and helped fund research centres and respite homes across the country. Since 1988\, thanks to your support\, Children With Cancer have raised over £220 million to help the fight against childhood cancer. This show will help raise more vital funds for this very worthwhile charity. \n  \n  \n\nBuy tickets:\nIn order to raise as much money as possible for the charity\, tickets are only available to buy in person from Paul Cook\, or by contacting us via email at info@hilaritybites.co.uk.

Markus Birdman\, Jack Carroll\, and host Matt Reed\nShow details:\n \nMarkus Birdman\nMarkus Birdman is one of British comedy's most experienced and well-travelled performers. In demand all over the UK and abroad\, Markus is a veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe with many solo shows to his credit and headliner status at all the top clubs. \nHe's performed at the Melbourne\, Adelaide\, and Perth Comedy Festivals and was nominated by the New Zealand Comedy Guild for Best International Guest. \nHis international gig list would give Michael Palin a run for his money\, with shows in Singapore\, The Netherlands\, Qatar\, Bahrain\, Austria\, Spain\, France\, Norway\, Sweden\, Singapore\, Switzerland\, Finland\, Cyprus and India to name a few. \nNot to be missed\, catch him in the UK before he jets off again. \n“Delightfully comic. Controversial\, personal and wickedly punchy” - The List \n“A consummate comic... energetic\, engaging\, thought-provoking and funny” - The Stage \n“Engagingly mixes the silly and the downright wrong” - Chortle \n  \n \nJack Carroll\nJack Carroll is a comedian\, actor and writer. Aged 11\, he starred in CBBC sketch show Ministry of Curious Stuff with Vic Reeves\, going on to win a Pride of Britain award at 12\, was runner-up on Britain’s got talent aged 14 and was nominated for a National Soap Award aged 15 for his appearance in Doctors. What he did when he was 13 remains a mystery. \nSince then\, Jack made stand-up appearances on Live at the Apollo and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order\, has acted in 4 series of the Sky One Sitcom Trollied and starred in feature film Eaten By Lions. As well as acting and stand up\, he is a graduate of the BBC Writersroom. \nJack recently wrote and starred in the BAFTA award-winning short form comedy pilot ‘Mobility’ for the BBC. In 2023 Jack took on the role of Bobby Barlow in the nation’s favourite soap ‘Coronation Street’. \nHis other attributes include Cerebral palsy\, an amazing ability to write about himself in the third person\, his brilliant intellect and his modesty. \n“...A galloping comic tour de force” - Radio Times \n“A revelation” - The Telegraph \n“He’s saying what no one else can; it’s hilarious” - The Guardian \n  \n \nMatt Reed\nBorn and bred in Sunderland\, Matt's affable style has won him fans across the UK. He effortlessly plays with the crowd with a natural rapport that is found in few comics. Matt\, always ready\, never disappointing will always make a good gig - great. \nIn 2015 Matt took his debut show to the Edinburgh Fringe\, retelling the four year ordeal of how he was stalked and cat-fished by an online admirer. The show won rave reviews from critics and audience alike\, with Matt playing to sell-out audiences. \nWith so many gigs of every size under his belt\, from audiences of 3000 to 30\, there is pretty much no comedy situation Matt can't handle. As pleasant as he is wonderfully brutal\, Matt is a welcome addition to any comedy night entertaining the crowd while skillfully destroying any heckler that crosses his path. \n “Absolutely hilarious... had the crowd rolling around” - BBC \n“Brilliant... always original one of the newest stars of comedy” - The Leeds Guide \n“Brilliantly handled a very difficult room\, this fashionably unkempt lad will go far” - Swansea Telegraph \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle. \n  \n\nOver the last 30 years Children with Cancer UK has funded over 200 research projects and helped fund research centres and respite homes across the country.
