DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bitesize New Act & New Material Night\, with David Eagle\, Zoe\, host Andy Fury & support\nShow details:\n \nDavid Eagle\nIn 2018 David began performing stand up comedy. He was awarded the New Act Of The Year prize at 2018’s Nottingham Comedy Festival. He frequently supports Boothby Graffoe on tour\, and he also starred in Tony Law and Phil Nichol’s improvised 2019 Edinburgh Fringe show. \nDavid is one third of three-time BBC Radio 2 folk Award winning band The Young’uns. You may have heard them performing on BBC Radio 2 and 3\, or maybe seen them on BBC’s Springwatch. They’ve also done a couple of documentaries for BBC Radio 4. Or perhaps – and granted\, this is unlikely\, but maybe – you heard them in the Aardman Animations film Itch of the Golden Nit\, in which they played the role of Vic Reeves’ pirate backing band. They perform at venues and festivals in the UK and all over the world\, including Cambridge Folk Festival and Glastonbury\, where they played on stage with Billy Bragg. \n“a comic tour de force” - The Guardian \n“David Eagle is a genuine stand up rookie phenomenon! A stand out act\, tipped for stardom and like nothing you’ve seen before” - Felt Nowt \n“Some of our most legendary and unforgettable gigs have had Zoe headlining - always guaranteed to bring the house down with her absolute command of an audience. One of the funniest acts to come out of the North East in years! It definitely won’t be long before we’re seeing her on our screens!” - Mr Shindig's Comedy \n  \n \nAndy Fury\nDespite starting comedy out of “sheer boredom” just a few years ago\, Andy Fury has impressed a lot of people in a short space of time with a wonderful mix of self-deprecating dark jokes and off the wall surrealism. \nWith a laidback stage presence that sometimes borders horizontal\, he’s as hard-working as he is funny and winning the Hilarity Bites New Act Of The Year 2010 title has put Andy on the path to working at many of the best clubs in the country\, wowing audiences the length and breadth of the UK. \n“An absolute genius of a comedian” - BBC \n“Brilliant... SUMMARY:Hartlepool\, June 1st 2023
DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bitesize New Act & New Material Night\, with Steve Gribbin\, Carl Jones\, host Lee Kyle & support\nShow details:\n \nSteve Gribbin\nSteve Gribbin is a diminutive guitar-wielding satirist from Liverpool whose scabrous comedy songs and off the wall observations have made him one of the firm favourites of the comedy circuit. \nSteve’s original comedy songs combine razor sharp lyrics with tunes that put their foot in the door of your mind and refuse to leave. Firmly based in rock ‘n’ roll and refusing to pull no punches\, these are not the ‘oh so witty’ ditties of penguin-suited plink plonk piano playing posh gobs. They are that rarity – comedy songs which are actually funny. \nFor nine years Steve was the smaller one in the dynamic comedy duo Skint Video\, stalwart’s of the Edinburgh Festival\, appearing on countless television programmes such as Saturday Live\, radio such as The Mary Whitehouse Experience\, and their own show in 1992/3 Songlines (BBC Radio 1). Skint Video went their different ways in 1993\, since then Steve has been storming across the UK and Ireland as a solo artiste. \n“A comic animated by proper passion... a trenchant treat” - The Guardian \n“You can count the number of truly imaginative comic singers currently on the circuit on the fingers of one hand. One of this select band is Steve Gribbin” - Time Out \n“Satirical songs are hard to pull off successfully\, but if anyone can do it\, Steve Gribbin can. In fact\, he pulls it off with real aplomb” - The Independent \n  \n \nCarl Jones\nMidlands comic Carl Jones first hit the circuit in 2011\, winning the Nottingham Comedy Festival Best Newcomer in his first handful of gigs. Since then\, he’s performed and written for the BBC’s comedy output and is a regular at some of the top comedy clubs across the UK. \nWith a growing reputation as an engaging storytelling comedian and welcoming MC who is able to play a variety of rooms\, he is a regular opener\, middle\, closer and host for a wide range of comedy clubs of all sizes across the UK. \nA huge football fan\, he’s also released two books about the beautiful game and can be heard interviewing comedy pals on his own Premier League nostalgia podcast When Football Began Again. \n“Very funny... a breezily entertaining half-hour from a likeable comic” - Chortle \n“The audience loved him from start to finish. His natural comic story-telling ability had them hanging on every word” - Hot Water Comedy \n“From the moment he came to the microphone\, he made the audience feel at home. Sharp\, quick on his feet and completely good-natured\, Carl set the audience up for a great night of comedy. Would highly recommend him as an MC for any occasion” - Stand Up at The Studio \n  \n \nLee Kyle\nIn his never ending quest not to have a proper job\, Lee Kyle spent time as part of an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler. \nManaging the difficult trick of being both odd and relatable\, he did a show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 that he heard was well received but he doesn't read reviews because his psyche is too fragile to handle them so he isn't totally sure what they said. \nArmed with props and a rapid gag rate he cuts a confident\, if off-beat figure on stage. His jokes veer between the clever and the silly and deliver more than their fair share of belly laughs. \n“Had everyone on their feet - Sublimely ridiculous” - The Northern Echo \n“A brilliant performance.. Pure genius!” - NARC Magazine \n“Quirky and original - the highlight of the night” - Giggle Beats \n  \nThis show will also feature support from several new acts\, and established acts performing new material. \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7pm\nShow starts: 7:30pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person\, with doors opening at 7pm and the show starting at 7:30pm. His unique brand of musical comedy is smart and silly in equal measure and he can boast an impressive stock of quirky\, and very funny\, musical one-liners. \nIn 2013 Tom reached the final of the prestigious So You Think You're Funny? competition\, previously won by Dylan Moran\, Lee Mack and Peter Kay. In 2014\, he reached the final of the Hobgoblin Comedy Award and\, the following year\, won the inaugural Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year competition. \nRecently\, Tom has performed on Radio 2 and Radio 4 Extra as part of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award and has supported Simon Munnery on tour. \n“His brand of nervous\, neurotic musical comedy is an absolute delight” - The Skinny \n  \n \nChris Brooker\nOne of comedy’s heavy hitters\, Chris Brooker’s infectious energy and enthusiasm sweeps through a room like an irresistible force. Chris’ combination of hilarious\, original material and inspired improvisation means that you will never see the same routine twice. Immensely likeable\, there’s no doubting his ability to win over any crowd and drag them along for the ride. \nDescribed only half-accurately as comedy's ginger viking\, Chris has taken his brand of comedy and compering all over the UK as well to the US and Canada. In 2008 he made history when he became the first foreign player to be chosen for the All-Star team at the ComedySportz World Championship in Portland\, Oregon. Currently in high demand as an MC due to his ability to energise a room and think on his feet\, Chris is also a polished performer with three full length solo shows under his belt. The most recent of which\, Unstoppable\, played to glowing reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. \n“Very funny\, very quick... On the spot humour” - BBC \n“The best act of the night\, his quick wit silencing hecklers and getting plenty of laughs” - Manchester Evening News \n“A fitting finale\, had the audience in stitches” - Student Online \n  \n \nTony Jameson\nSince starting in September\, 2008\, Tony Jameson has established himself firmly as one of the brightest prospects in the North East comedy scene. \nWith his whimsical rambling manner\, or flight of fancy\, Tony takes audiences on a tour of the inner workings of his mind and the strange things that happen in his life. Fleeting from whimsy to dark one-liners\, before stopping for a cup of tea and a breather. It’s a bit like a small child who always asks ‘why?’ His observations are well thought out\, keeping the audience on their toes and intrigued\, eager to see where his journey will take them. \nIn 2014 Tony had an exceptional run at the Edinburgh Festival\, following a sell-out run in 2013 with his critically acclaimed show Football Manager Ruined My Life\, which he then toured throughout Winter 2014\, before taking it back on the road in 2015. \n“Tony Jameson delivered both an imaginatively amusing and well received performance...” - Three Weeks \n“Terrific... Wonderful... Life-affirming stuff...” - The Skinny \n“The latest Geordie with massive potential” - Yorkshire Evening Press \n  \nThis show will also feature support from several new acts\, and established acts performing new material. DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bitesize New Act & New Material Night\, with Noel James\, Gareth Mutch\, host Sammy Dobson & support\nShow details:\n \nNoel James\nBritain's Got Talent 2018 semi-finalist\nNoel James has been making people laugh for over 25 years and much of stand-up's royalty has cited him as being a big influence: from Tim Vine and Milton Jones\, to Frank Skinner and Dylan Moran. \nNoel is surreal\, bizarre\, absurd\, intelligent\, and yet\, somehow strangely attractive. He's an accessible act who generally goes down well anywhere; his best lines would grace any comedian's repertoire\, whilst the worst would shame a cracker factory. Highly original and just plain ridiculous. \n“Liberates the lunatic side to our personalities - brilliantly!” - Time Out \n“Stands out like a droll giant in a comedy land of trite dwarfs” - The Independent \n“Huge fan!” - The Sunday Times \n  \n \nGareth Mutch\nGareth is a professional Scottish stand up comedian\, who has been making a very strong name for himself on the British comedy scene over the last 8 years. \nHe has been performing in clubs and theatres up and down the UK\, whilst also providing tour support for Tom Stade (Live at the Apollo) and Iain Stirling (voice of Love Island.) \nGareth has also been seen on BBC Scotland’s ‘Comedy Underground’ STV's Edinburgh Festival show\, Live at Five and The Late Show. \n“Storming performance” - The Skinny \n“Gareth’s stand up style is engaging\, candid and renders him immediately likeable” - Arcadia \n“Assured\, amusing storytelling” - The Wee Review \n  \n \nSammy Dobson\nSammy Dobson started her career at 14 in Byker Grove\, and went on to appear in many BBC and ITV dramas and films including ‘I\, Daniel Blake’. Her most recent TV credits include hit comedies such as 'Boy Meets Girl'\, and appearances in the first two series of Dave's award-winning 'Meet The Richardsons'. \nSammy decided to try stand up comedy for a charity event a few years ago and hasn’t stopped since! DESCRIPTION:*** Tickets for this show are now sold-out ***\nHilarity Bitesize New Act & New Material Night\, with Sam Avery\, Rachel Jackson\, host Lee Kyle & support\nShow details:\n \nSam Avery\nSam Avery wanted to be a rock star. It nearly happened. \nDespite being signed up by BMG Records at the age of 17 (he had to resign from his beloved paper round)\, and subsequent tours with Motorhead and Ice T\, the story soon took a familiar turn. Contracts were anulled\, money was stolen and before he knew it he was back at the paper shop asking for his fluorescent bag back. He had crap hair anyway. \nSubsequent jobs (including a brief stint as a stockbroker) failed to excite him the way the smell of sweat and snakebite had and it wasn't long before he turned to stand-up\, soon making the final of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition\, and finishing runner-up in the City Life North-West Comedian of the Year competition. \nFriendly and enthusiastic\, his observational style instantly puts audiences at ease allowing him to regale them with his tales of everyday life. Sam has gained a reputation for being able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm\, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere. \nSam is also known as The Learner Parent\, the blog that he started which has lead to a best-selling book and sold-out UK tour. \n“Quick wit and painfully funny” - Metro \n“A must” - Sunday Times \n“A gifted storyteller” - The List \n  \n \nRachel Jackson\nRachel is an Edinburgh native with a quick mind and a sharp tongue. She has made somewhat of a name for herself in Scotland and is renowned for her fearless style and candid yet loveable demeanour. \nShe has developed several sketches for the BBC culminating in a web series entitled Bunny Boiler for BBC Three which she also wrote and was received with critical acclaim\, and has performed several solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe wowing audiences and critics alike\, and earning rave reviews and many new fans. \nRecent TV credits such as ‘The Stand Up Sketch Show’ on ITV2 (series 3 and series 4) and ‘The Comedy Underground’ on BBC Scotland. Rachel is also a panellist on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Breaking The News’ and ‘The Good\, The Bad and the Unexpected’ . \n“Light years beyond other comedians” - ★★★★ - Sunday Mail \n“Jackson is a genius behind the mic” - ★★★★ - Ed Fest Mag \n“Glorious performer” - Shappi Khorsandi \n  \n \nLee Kyle\nIn his never ending quest not to have a proper job\, Lee Kyle spent time as part of an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler.
