SUMMARY:Malton\, November 17th 2023
DESCRIPTION:Steve Gribbin: Elon Musk’s Monkey\nShow details:\n \nSteve Gribbin\, the sarkily satirical Scouse song-thrush\, brings his brand of scathing musical comedy to The Milton Rooms in Malton. Up-to-the-second topical and unashamedly political\, Steve takes on everything from Climate Change\, Royal Feuds\, The Cost Of Living Crisis and the perils of being an Embarrassing Dad\, all with his customary cheeky charm and wit. \nSteve’s original comedy songs combine razor sharp lyrics with tunes that put their foot in the door of your mind and refuse to leave. Firmly based in rock ‘n’ roll and refusing to pull no punches\, these are not the ‘oh so witty’ ditties of penguin-suited plink plonk piano playing posh gobs. They are that rarity – comedy songs which are actually funny. \nExpect seasick shanties\, R&B dancefloor grooves and intensely unsettling Folk. All in the one song! \n“Steve Gribbin stormed the stage\, and had the audience roaring with laughter from start to finish… a real class act” – The Independent On Sunday \n“Steve Gribbin has all the manic energy of a friendly Tasmanian Devil…spot-on and hysterical” – The Scotsman \n“Comedy songs are notoriously difficult to pull off\, but Steve Gribbin is one of only a handful of practitioners working today in the UK to pull it off with real aplomb and style!” – TimeOut \n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person and are only available to buy from TicketSource. DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Tom Taylor\, Harriet Dyer\, and host Pete Selwood\nShow details:\n \nTom Taylor\n2015 Yorkshire Comedian of the Year\nMulti-award winning comedian Tom Taylor has received high praise from audiences and critics alike. His unique brand of musical comedy is smart and silly in equal measure and he can boast an impressive stock of quirky\, and very funny\, musical one-liners. \nIn 2013 Tom reached the final of the prestigious So You Think You're Funny? competition\, previously won by Dylan Moran\, Lee Mack and Peter Kay. In 2014\, he reached the final of the Hobgoblin Comedy Award and\, the following year\, won the inaugural Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year competition. \nRecently\, Tom has performed on Radio 2 and Radio 4 Extra as part of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award and has supported Simon Munnery on tour. \n“His brand of nervous\, neurotic musical comedy is an absolute delight” - The Skinny \n  \n \nHarriet Dyer\nHarriet Dyer (BBC3\, BBC Live at The Fringe\, BBC Radio 4\, BBC Knock Knock\, BBC Ouch\, Absolute Radio\, The Russell Howard Hour) is an award winning comedian\, writer and mental health advocate. \nHarriet has been a full time comic since 2013. She’s had numerous critically acclaimed shows\, works for the majority of big clubs and festivals\, regularly gigs overseas\, and prides herself in being totally original! - An experience to behold\, if you will. \nHarriet has bipolar disorder and does a lot of comedy work around mental health. Her debut\, solo\, hour-long show Barking At Aeroplanes at Edinburgh Fringe about her struggles and adventures with mental health received critical acclaim\, resulting in a UK tour. \nHarriet was touched by the reaction the show received\, with audience members expressing how much of an important show it was and how refreshing it was to hear someone talk so openly about mental health. This led to Harriet creating the award winning\, monthly mental health comedy night Barking Tales which is beloved by its many regular attendees. \nMost recently Harriet's written a book about her life to critical acclaim\, and she's been one of the main writers on both seasons on Jon Richardson's Channel Hopping. \n“a bundle of whimsical hilarity... a breath of fresh air... will have you in stitches” - Broadway Baby \n“Harriet Dyer was one of the stand out superstars for me at this year's Edinburgh Fringe. She’s insightful\, unique\, peerless\, extraordinary and... well\, maybe a little unhinged” - BBC Radio 4 Extra \n“She's got funny bones!” - Kevin Bridges \n“Instinctively funny... seems certain to become a comic force to be reckoned with” - Chortle \n  \n \nPete Selwood\nA hotly tipped up and coming comedian on the circuit\, Pete Selwood has quickly risen through the comedy ranks with swagger. After winning the Lawrence Batley New Yorkshire Comedian of the Year (quite a mouthful)\, he has gone from strength to strength\, winning comedy competitions and winning over audiences. \nThe Barnsley born Yorkshireman is an adept storyteller\, focussing on tales of Northern life as a perpetually single man in his 20s. Being born with only one hand also gives him a unique view and experience of the world around him\, poking fun at having a fairly minor disability in modern Britain. \nIn keeping with his material about disability\, Selwood is also half of a double-act with Britain's Got Talent star Jack Carroll\, performing sketches and creating videos about the portrayal of disability within our society. \n“Wowed the crowd” - Liverpool Echo \n“man with swagger\, isn’t misplaced either” - Notts Comedy Review \n“grace and good humour\, immensely likeable” - North West End \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n  \n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person and are only available to buy from TicketSource. DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Duncan Oakley\, Peter Brush\, and host Jon Pearson\nShow details:\n \nDuncan Oakley\nAward-winning comedy songwriter Duncan Oakley has been performing on the UK club and festival circuit since 1999. In that time Duncan has appeared on BBC3\, Channel 4 and BBC Radio 4 as well as having a lead role as Eddie in Beat 24's feature film Frontman (a film that won awards but sadly never achieved major release despite Oakley being brilliant in it). \nProudly childlike\, musical comedian Duncan Oakley can be playful and daft but is always infectiously funny. \nExpect big laughs from your inner oaf. \n“Leaping between stupidity and pure brilliance” - Yorkshire Evening Post \n“Oakley's routine deftly mixes the tunes with the stand-up” - City Life \n“Brilliant. A true\, funny entertainer” - BAFTA winner Dave Johns \n  \n \nPeter Brush\nA highly distinctive performer and deft writer of finely crafted jokes\, Peter Brush unassumingly takes the stage with his slight bespectacled frame and scruffy hair\, before consummately conquering it with an arsenal of razor sharp quirky one-liners and peerlessly original routines\, all delivered in an amusingly awkward fashion. \nPeter performs at all the major clubs across the UK\, as well as having done many of it’s biggest festivals\, he has also played shows in Switzerland\, Norway and Hungary. DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Sam Avery\, Stephanie Laing\, and host Cal Halbert\nShow details:\n \nSam Avery\nSam Avery wanted to be a rock star. It nearly happened. \nDespite being signed up by BMG Records at the age of 17 (he had to resign from his beloved paper round)\, and subsequent tours with Motorhead and Ice T\, the story soon took a familiar turn. Contracts were anulled\, money was stolen and before he knew it he was back at the paper shop asking for his fluorescent bag back. He had crap hair anyway. \nSubsequent jobs (including a brief stint as a stockbroker) failed to excite him the way the smell of sweat and snakebite had and it wasn't long before he turned to stand-up\, soon making the final of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition\, and finishing runner-up in the City Life North-West Comedian of the Year competition. \nFriendly and enthusiastic\, his observational style instantly puts audiences at ease allowing him to regale them with his tales of everyday life. Sam has gained a reputation for being able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm\, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere. \nSam is also known as The Learner Parent\, the blog that he started which has lead to a best-selling book and sold-out UK tour. \n“Quick wit and painfully funny” - Metro \n“A must” - Sunday Times \n“A gifted storyteller” - The List \n  \n \nStephanie Laing\nGoofy and peculiar\, Stephanie Laing’s comedy is partway between the needy oddness of Maria Bamford and the upbeat affability of Josie Long. Her material is a mix of silliness\, filth and unusual observations\, underpinned by a disarming honesty which makes her seem charmingly vulnerable. \nA regular on the circuit Stephanie has also become a stalwart of comedy festivals across the country having appeared at Brighton Fringe\, Leicester Comedy Festival\, York Comedy Festival\, Bath Comedy Festival\, Women in Comedy Festival as well as appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe every year since 2010. Not content with just performing in the UK Stephanie has also appeared at UCB in New York & The Laugh Factory in L.A. \nMost recently in 2018 Stephanie took her solo show ‘Mad About The Boy’ to the Melbourne\, Adelaide & Perth comedy festivals. \n“Laing is a jovial\, baby faced performer who comes across as utterly unencumbered\, so it doesn’t especially feel like adult humour when it plainly is... Laing has a Sarah Millican-esque appeal” - Chortle \n“Disgusting and delightful in equal measure. She is definitely one to watch” - Three Weeks \n“Gloriously silly … wonderfully unpretentious” - Broadway Baby \n  \n  \n \nCal Halbert\nDeemed 'the new generation of comedy' by Michael McIntyre\, Cal Halbert has performed from local comedy clubs to the London Palladium\, Britain's Got Talent to Good Morning Britain and voiced for YouTube to the BBC. \nWell known as an impressionist\, Halbert is one half of 'The Mimic Men'\, the UK's only impressionist double act! The Mimic Men appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2016\, gaining four yeses accompanied by a standing ovation by the judges\, audience\, and Ant and Dec. \n“Very good” - Simon Cowell \n“Uncanny imitations” - The Sun \n“Impersonator genius” - Sunderland Echo \n  \n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person and are only available to buy from TicketSource. Eddy Brimson\, Lauren Pattison\, and host Lee Kyle\nShow details:\n \nEddy Brimson\nSince turning to comedy in 1999\, Eddy Brimson has well and truly established himself on the live circuit and is regarded by some as one of the leading headline comics in British comedy and the world. His career has even taken him from Dundee to Dubai! \nTo say Eddy has a colourful past is something of an understatement. A self-confessed former football hooligan before turning his hands to better use as a writer and comedian\, Eddy has written a host of amusing anecdotal books\, penned and hosted a top three selling video ‘Teargas and Tantrums’\, and is also a regular “talking head’ for numerous radio and TV shows on subjects as diverse as football\, dodgy builders and sexy baldness. \nHe’s appeared on television in many different guises from Hari Krishna in both Smith & Jones and Heartburn Hotel\, to hard-nosed Villain in Eastenders\, where he turned over Frank Butchers car lot! Other appearances include Absolutely Fabulous\, The Thin Blue Line and Hale & Pace\, The Bill\, Silent Witness\, Casualty\, Between The Lines and the HBO movie The Infiltrator where he played a leading gang member. \nEddy is also a regular radio contributor to shows on BBC Radio 5 and Talksport and also a prolific writer\, having penned seven best-selling books. With sales topping 160\,000\, Eddy has built himself a cult following among British and European football fans. In short\, this is one gifted and hilarious performer. \n“The crowd loved him” - The Guardian \n“Quite simply brilliant” - Sky \n“Engaging and Compelling\, Brimson doesn’t f*@k about” - Three Weeks \n  \nReplacing Kate McCabe:\n \nLauren Pattison\nEdinburgh Best Newcomer Nominee 2017\, Lauren is a comedian\, actor and writer. Her TV appearances include two episodes of Comedy Central at the Comedy Store (Comedy Central)\, Roast Battle (Comedy Central)\, hosting an episode of Takeshi’s Castle (Comedy Central)\, The Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC)\, The Great Christmas Rant (ITV2)\, The Blame Game (BBC One Northern Ireland) and internationally on New Zealand’s 7 Days (TV3)\, Australia’s Comedy Up Late (ABC) and Canada’s The Stand Up Show with Katherine Ryan (The Comedy Network Canada). As an actor her credits include Drunk History (Comedy Central)\, Jerk (BBC3)\, and Climaxed (BBC3). \nShe can currently be heard hosting the critically acclaimed weekly podcast Conversations Against Living Miserably\, produced by the TV channel Dave in partnership with the Campaign Against Living Miserably. Now in its second series\, the podcast has had guests including Richard Gadd\, Jenny Eclair\, Lou Sanders\, Dane Baptiste and Stu Goldsmith. The Guardian described the show as “funny\, kind and thought-provoking.” \nIn 2017\, Lauren sold out her debut run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her critically acclaimed show Lady Muck. On top of her Best Newcomer nomination\, Lauren won the prestigious Herald Angel Award and was nominated for Amused Moose Best Comedy Show. The 5-star show was the best-reviewed show at The Pleasance that year and was so popular that she added three extra sold-out shows. The success of the show saw it go on to a six-night sold-out run at London’s Soho Theatre\, as well as runs at the Perth and Adelaide Fringe in Australia and the Auckland Comedy Festival in New Zealand. \nA sought after act\, Lauren is a regular at all the major national comedy clubs and has provided tour support for Katherine Ryan\, Jason Manford\, Kerry Godliman\, Stewart Francis and Dane Baptiste\, as well as gracing the comedy stages of Latitude and Reading and Leeds Festivals. \n“a star of the future ... Lauren Pattison looks set for fame” - The List \n“Even when packing a punch\, her demeanour is breezy\, frank and friendly\, making her wickedly engaging company... a fully equipped comedian” - Chortle \n“Fast\, forthright and filthy” - The Guardian \n  \nReplacing Tony Cowards:\n \nLee Kyle\nIn his never ending quest not to have a proper job\, Lee Kyle spent time as part of an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler. \nManaging the difficult trick of being both odd and relatable\, he did a show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 that he heard was well received but he doesn't read reviews because his psyche is too fragile to handle them so he isn't totally sure what they said. \nArmed with props and a rapid gag rate he cuts a confident\, if off-beat figure on stage. His jokes veer between the clever and the silly and deliver more than their fair share of belly laughs. \n“Had everyone on their feet - Sublimely ridiculous” - The Northern Echo \n“A brilliant performance.. Pure genius!” - NARC Magazine \n“Quirky and original - the highlight of the night” - Giggle Beats \n  \n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person and are only available to buy from TicketSource.
