Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Duncan Oakley, Josh Pugh, and host Lee Kyle
As heard on BBC Radio 4's "Shappi Talk", Duncan Oakley is an artschool dropout and songwriter who has performed live since he was fifteen and then joined the comedy circuit in 1999. Duncan performs an infectious mix of musical comedy and stand up with one of his trusty guitars - Maurice (Fender Strat), No.7 (acoustic) or his Les Paul (the Lezza) by his side.
With an eye and ear for the silly, rude, playful and downright irritating occurrences of life Duncan musters up songs that not only make you laugh, they bury into the recesses of your mind and find you a humming tune with a smile on your face 3 days later, confused and wondering where it’s come from.
A talented all-round musician Duncan can also perform with harmonica, drums & piano as a one man musical whirlwind, and is a regular at the biggest comedy clubs around the UK and also all of the biggest music festivals.
“Oakley's routine deftly mixes the tunes with the stand-up” - City Life
“There's laughter and there’s laughter and if you want to experience real mccoy, genuine, honestly felt, uncontrollable cachinnation the best place is at a Duncan Oakley gig” - Plymouth Herald
“...the encore had me in tears of laughter” - BBC
“...an excellent entertainer and musical/comedy genius well worth seeing!” - The National Student
English Comedian of the Year 2016
Birmingham Comedy Festival Breaking Talent Award Winner 2015
Nottingham Comedy Festival New Act of the Year Award 2015
Midlands New Act of the Year 2014 (and 2015 somehow)
Hot off winning the Midland New Act of the Year in 2014 and 2015, Josh Pugh rapidly shot to the upper echelons of UK stand-up, winning English Comedian of the Year 2016, only two years after playing his first gig.
He also won the Funhouse Gong Show as well as the Best New Act prizes at both the 2015 Birmingham and Nottingham Comedy Festivals.
Josh’s clever, original, and (most importantly) very funny writing and performing continues to bring in plaudits, from Chortle to the Londonist to the London Evening Standard, and he undoubtedly has a blindingly bright future.
“Pleasingly off the beaten track” - The Londonist
“Excellent writing from a peculiar and offbeat mind... an almost certain future star” - Chortle
In his never ending quest not to have a proper job, Lee Kyle spent time as part of an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler.
Managing the difficult trick of being both odd and relatable, he did a show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 that he heard was well received but he doesn't read reviews because his psyche is too fragile to handle them so he isn't totally sure what they said.
Armed with props and a rapid gag rate he cuts a confident, if off-beat figure on stage. His jokes veer between the clever and the silly and deliver more than their fair share of belly laughs.
“Had everyone on their feet - Sublimely ridiculous” - The Northern Echo
“A brilliant performance.. Pure genius!” - NARC Magazine
“Quirky and original - the highlight of the night” - Giggle Beats
This show will also feature a newer act in the middle.
