SUMMARY:Bishop Auckland\, May 20th 2022
DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. David Hadingham\, Susan Riddell\, and host Lee Kyle\nShow details:\n \nDavid Hadingham\nLike a mad Phil Daniels\, Dave Hadingham is a bulldog of a comedian\, and the animal allegories don't stop there. In an affectionately\, snarling\, ranting and raving set\, Dave is not afraid to make you laugh about anything (remember the dogs). \nAt his best in the live arena\, Dave has been a professional comic since May 1996. Intense and anecdotal\, he keeps audiences hooked right up to the last punchline as he presents his unique and often warped view of everyday life. \nThis gravel-voiced comic combines supremely controlled delivery with inimitable facial contortions as he cracks some of the best handmade gags in the business. \nDave is a highly-regarded regular on the nationwide comedy circuit\, headlining at all of the biggest clubs in the UK and also performing at resorts across Europe. \n“ranting and raving comic genius” - The Guardian \n“Hilariously funny with notable precision and charisma” - The Scotsman \n  \n \nSusan Riddell\nAs seen on ITV’s Jonathan Ross Comedy Club\, BBC Comedy Underground\, and supporting Ardal O'Hanlon and Fern Brady on UK tours. \nAfter winning a place in BBC Writer’s Room Fast and Funny\, Susan Riddell went on to write\, create and star in several on-line comedy sketches for BBC Short Stuff which have garnered nearly 3 million views and counting. Susan recently performed stand up at the Edinburgh Fringe in both CKP’s Lunchtime Special and the BBC Presents Comedy Tent. She also wrote a humorous weekly column for The Daily Record newspaper for around two years. \nOther writing credits and acting roles include C4 and BBC’s Ones spoof cop show Scot Squad. She is currently working on a sitcom pilot with the BBC and is a regular on topical BBC radio panel show Breaking the News (BBC Radio Scotland). Her sitcom Dregs filmed for BBC iPlayer as 3 mini episodes\, was commissioned by BBC Scotland. \n“She’s a brilliant comedian... a star on the rise” - BBC \n“Emerging talent with an original comic voice” - Funny Women \n“Formidable... fearless\, quick with the audience work and ready with self put downs ... delivered as if she’s making it up on the spot. She’s sharp make no mistake!” - The Wee Review \n  \n \nLee Kyle\nIn his never ending quest not to have a proper job\, Lee Kyle spent time as part of an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler. \nManaging the difficult trick of being both odd and relatable\, he did a show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 that he heard was well received but he doesn't read reviews because his psyche is too fragile to handle them so he isn't totally sure what they said. \nArmed with props and a rapid gag rate he cuts a confident\, if off-beat figure on stage. His jokes veer between the clever and the silly and deliver more than their fair share of belly laughs. \n“Had everyone on their feet - Sublimely ridiculous” - The Northern Echo \n“A brilliant performance.. Pure genius!” - NARC Magazine \n“Quirky and original - the highlight of the night” - Giggle Beats \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle. \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show can be bought online at www.bishopaucklandtownhall.org.uk\, in person from Bishop Auckland Town Hall\, or telephone 03000 269 524.

DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Eddy Brimson\, Lauren Pattison\, and host Lee Kyle\nShow details:\n \nEddy Brimson\nSince turning to comedy in 1999\, Eddy Brimson has well and truly established himself on the live circuit and is regarded by some as one of the leading headline comics in British comedy and the world. His career has even taken him from Dundee to Dubai! \nTo say Eddy has a colourful past is something of an understatement. A self-confessed former football hooligan before turning his hands to better use as a writer and comedian\, Eddy has written a host of amusing anecdotal books\, penned and hosted a top three selling video ‘Teargas and Tantrums’\, and is also a regular “talking head’ for numerous radio and TV shows on subjects as diverse as football\, dodgy builders and sexy baldness. \nHe’s appeared on television in many different guises from Hari Krishna in both Smith & Jones and Heartburn Hotel\, to hard-nosed Villain in Eastenders\, where he turned over Frank Butchers car lot! Other appearances include Absolutely Fabulous\, The Thin Blue Line and Hale & Pace\, The Bill\, Silent Witness\, Casualty\, Between The Lines and the HBO movie The Infiltrator where he played a leading gang member. \nEddy is also a regular radio contributor to shows on BBC Radio 5 and Talksport and also a prolific writer\, having penned seven best-selling books. With sales topping 160\,000\, Eddy has built himself a cult following among British and European football fans. In short\, this is one gifted and hilarious performer. \n“The crowd loved him” - The Guardian \n“Quite simply brilliant” - Sky \n“Engaging and Compelling\, Brimson doesn’t f*@k about” - Three Weeks \n  \nReplacing Kate McCabe:\n \nLauren Pattison\nEdinburgh Best Newcomer Nominee 2017\, Lauren is a comedian\, actor and writer. Her TV appearances include two episodes of Comedy Central at the Comedy Store (Comedy Central)\, Roast Battle (Comedy Central)\, hosting an episode of Takeshi’s Castle (Comedy Central)\, The Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC)\, The Great Christmas Rant (ITV2)\, The Blame Game (BBC One Northern Ireland) and internationally on New Zealand’s 7 Days (TV3)\, Australia’s Comedy Up Late (ABC) and Canada’s The Stand Up Show with Katherine Ryan (The Comedy Network Canada). As an actor her credits include Drunk History (Comedy Central)\, Jerk (BBC3)\, and Climaxed (BBC3). \nShe can currently be heard hosting the critically acclaimed weekly podcast Conversations Against Living Miserably\, produced by the TV channel Dave in partnership with the Campaign Against Living Miserably. Now in its second series\, the podcast has had guests including Richard Gadd\, Jenny Eclair\, Lou Sanders\, Dane Baptiste and Stu Goldsmith. The Guardian described the show as “funny\, kind and thought-provoking.” \nIn 2017\, Lauren sold out her debut run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her critically acclaimed show Lady Muck. On top of her Best Newcomer nomination\, Lauren won the prestigious Herald Angel Award and was nominated for Amused Moose Best Comedy Show. The 5-star show was the best-reviewed show at The Pleasance that year and was so popular that she added three extra sold-out shows. The success of the show saw it go on to a six-night sold-out run at London’s Soho Theatre\, as well as runs at the Perth and Adelaide Fringe in Australia and the Auckland Comedy Festival in New Zealand. \nA sought after act\, Lauren is a regular at all the major national comedy clubs and has provided tour support for Katherine Ryan\, Jason Manford\, Kerry Godliman\, Stewart Francis and Dane Baptiste\, as well as gracing the comedy stages of Latitude and Reading and Leeds Festivals. \n“a star of the future ... Lauren Pattison looks set for fame” - The List \n“Even when packing a punch\, her demeanour is breezy\, frank and friendly\, making her wickedly engaging company... a fully equipped comedian” - Chortle \n“Fast\, forthright and filthy” - The Guardian \n  \nReplacing Tony Cowards:\n \nLee Kyle\nIn his never ending quest not to have a proper job\, Lee Kyle spent time as part of an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler. Pure genius!” - NARC Magazine \n“Quirky and original - the highlight of the night” - Giggle Beats \n  \n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person and are only available to buy from TicketSource. He's an accessible act who generally goes down well anywhere; his best lines would grace any comedian's repertoire\, whilst the worst would shame a cracker factory. Highly original and just plain ridiculous. \n“Liberates the lunatic side to our personalities - brilliantly!” - Time Out \n“Stands out like a droll giant in a comedy land of trite dwarfs” - The Independent \n“Huge fan!” - The Sunday Times \n  \n \nJon Pearson\nJon began standup comedy in 2010\, with his first performance at Birmingham’s Highlight Comedy Club. His talent and likability coupled with a confident swagger see him as one of the most popular acts in the North. \nFresh from a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe\, where he received rave reviews\, Danny also recently performed a headline set at the Green Man festival in South Wales getting a great reception from the 400 people in the marquee and being asked to wrap up for Manchester band Doves after their headline set in front of 12\,000 people. \nOutside of live work Danny has made several TV and radio appearances. From being a guest on Radio GMR to having his own show "Afternoons with Danny Deegan" on CAT FM in Crewe. DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Rob Rouse\, Peter Brush\, and host Rick Molland\nShow details:\n \nRob Rouse\nRob Rouse is a man who doesn't know the meaning of the word calm. Full of beans\, Rob can't slow down\, and why would he when he makes so many people laugh. Rob first made the leap into stand up comedy in the late 1990s\, touring the university circuits. In 1998 he won the prestigious 'So You Think You're Funny' competition at the Edinburgh Festival. \nAs seen on Dave's One Night Stand\, Celebrity Juice\, 8 out of 10 Cats\, The Friday Night Project\, and much more\, Rob is one of comedy’s most lively\, loveable and dynamic performers. \nPerforming a rare club show\, whilst in between tours\, expect stories of his life as a father\, his encounters with road-kill and his life as the beleaguered owner of the most spectacularly randy dog you’re ever likely to hear about... \n “He’s a man with genuinely funny bones” - Sunday Times \n“Rob Rouse is a born clown\, a latter-day Stan Laurel” - Time Out \n“Every single one of these everyday observations and shared recognitions is blown out of the mainstream by his electric-shock treatment of the material... You want to hug his brain for coming up with this stuff\, even as you want to wash his mouth out with soap for saying it” - The Herald \n  \n \nPeter Brush\nA highly distinctive performer and deft writer of finely crafted jokes\, Peter Brush unassumingly takes the stage with his slight bespectacled frame and scruffy hair\, before consummately conquering it with an arsenal of razor sharp quirky one-liners and peerlessly original routines\, all delivered in an amusingly awkward fashion. \nPeter performs at all the major clubs across the UK\, as well as having done many of it’s biggest festivals\, he has also played shows in Switzerland\, Norway and Hungary. Formerly a BBC New Comedy Award finalist\, he has written for several BBC Radio 4 shows and was the support act for Alexei Sayle’s most recent tour. Other acts he has supported on tour include Jonathan Pie\, Jason Manford\, Fern Brady\, Arthur Smith and Paul Sinha. \n“compellingly hilarious... first-class gag writing... an original and achingly funny voice” - ★★★★½ - Chortle \n“I love Peter Brush\, what a comic” - Jason Manford \n“unique observations and connections that stand-ups crave” - The Guardian \n“He’s a great comic” - BBC Radio 4 Saturday Review \n  \n \nRick Molland\nNot many Englishmen can cut it as an MC in a Scottish Comedy Club - but that's exactly what Rick Molland did every weekend of the year for years. \nAn award winning film maker and former Scottish Comedian of the Year runner-up\, having proven his comedy metal in some of the most formidable environments Scotland has to offer\, including T in the Park\, Rockness\, and The Wickerman Festivals\, Rick Molland is the former resident compère at Edinburgh's Monkey Barrel Comedy Club. \n“no-holds-barred comedy” - Edinburgh Evening News \n“perfect for the role of compere” - Three Weeks \n“ audacious” - The Scotsman \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle. \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7pm\nShow starts: 7:30pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 each. DESCRIPTION:*** Tickets for this show are now sold-out ***\nHilarity Bitesize New Act & New Material Night\, with Sam Avery\, Rachel Jackson\, host Lee Kyle & support\nShow details:\n \nSam Avery\nSam Avery wanted to be a rock star. It nearly happened. \nDespite being signed up by BMG Records at the age of 17 (he had to resign from his beloved paper round)\, and subsequent tours with Motorhead and Ice T\, the story soon took a familiar turn. Contracts were anulled\, money was stolen and before he knew it he was back at the paper shop asking for his fluorescent bag back. He had crap hair anyway. \nSubsequent jobs (including a brief stint as a stockbroker) failed to excite him the way the smell of sweat and snakebite had and it wasn't long before he turned to stand-up\, soon making the final of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition\, and finishing runner-up in the City Life North-West Comedian of the Year competition. \nFriendly and enthusiastic\, his observational style instantly puts audiences at ease allowing him to regale them with his tales of everyday life. Sam has gained a reputation for being able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm\, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere. \nSam is also known as The Learner Parent\, the blog that he started which has lead to a best-selling book and sold-out UK tour. \n“Quick wit and painfully funny” - Metro \n“A must” - Sunday Times \n“A gifted storyteller” - The List \n  \n \nRachel Jackson\nRachel is an Edinburgh native with a quick mind and a sharp tongue. She has made somewhat of a name for herself in Scotland and is renowned for her fearless style and candid yet loveable demeanour. \nShe has developed several sketches for the BBC culminating in a web series entitled Bunny Boiler for BBC Three which she also wrote and was received with critical acclaim\, and has performed several solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe wowing audiences and critics alike\, and earning rave reviews and many new fans. \nRecent TV credits such as ‘The Stand Up Sketch Show’ on ITV2 (series 3 and series 4) and ‘The Comedy Underground’ on BBC Scotland. Rachel is also a panellist on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Breaking The News’ and ‘The Good\, The Bad and the Unexpected’ . \n“Light years beyond other comedians” - ★★★★ - Sunday Mail \n“Jackson is a genius behind the mic” - ★★★★ - Ed Fest Mag \n“Glorious performer” - Shappi Khorsandi \n  \n \nLee Kyle\nIn his never ending quest not to have a proper job\, Lee Kyle spent time as part of an all male Spice Girls tribute act before spending a decade as a professional wrestler. Pure genius!” - NARC Magazine \n“Quirky and original - the highlight of the night” - Giggle Beats \n  \nThis show will also feature support from several new acts\, and established acts performing new material. \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7pm\nShow starts: 7:30pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person\, with doors opening at 7pm and the show starting at 7:30pm. Kerr\nBritain's Got Talent finalist 2018\nLeeds-based comedian and social commentator\, Micky P Kerr is a breath of fresh air on the live comedy circuit. Fusing together music\, spoken word and comedy\, with his tongue often planted firmly in his cheek\, Kerr has been described as the bastard spawn of John Cooper Clarke. \nAlready a familiar face on the live music circuit\, Micky turned his hand to stand-up comedy in 2013 and is rapidly becoming one to watch\, proving to be a massive hit with audiences and bookers alike. \nIn the short time he has been appearing on the comedy circuit he has already reached the semi-finals of both the So You Think You’re Funny and the BBC New Act competitions. He was also recently crowned Harrogate Comedy Festival New Comedian of the Year. \n2015 saw Micky record a live set for BBC Radio 1\, working on a new sitcom about his previous life as a primary school teacher and recording his latest album of music and comedy\, entitled Kerr in the Kerrmunity. In 2017 Micky performed his debut hour at the Edinburgh Fringe. \n“Kerr’s ability to get laughs out of them marks him out as perfect Radio 4 material” - Three Weeks \n“Unlike some acts who are not funny then are funny\, you are always funny” - Simon Cowell \n“Leeds-based Kerr’s assured and relaxed mix of one-liners\, poetry and songs certainly impressed” - Harrogate Advertiser \n  \n \nIgnacio Lopez\nAs seen on Live at the Apollo (BBC) and Have I Got News For You (BBC)\nIgnacio Lopez is a Spanish & Welsh comedian based in Cardiff. His parents are Welsh/Irish & Moroccan/Spanish\, and he has a German sister; family get-togethers are like a meeting of the U.N. \nAs well as hosting TV shows\, headlining top comedy clubs all over the U.K and Europe\, and taking the piss out of British people directly to their faces\, Ignacio writes sketches\, sitcoms\, and tweets. Every few months something he tweets will go viral and he'll gain a few thousand followers before they realise he doesn't just tweet witty observations about public transport and songs about hating the UK - then they unfollow until the next tweet goes viral. The fickle bastards. \nIgnacio has performed for the Wales football squad\, opened for James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers\, and hosts comedy and corporate events around the World. \nAt last count (probably this morning) Ignacio's videos have received over 20 Million views in total across Facebook\, Twitter\, Instagram and YouTube. TikTok will not remove videos of Ignacio that other people have stolen and posted themselves. \n“Hilarious” - The Scotsman \n“Charismatic with a waspish charm” - Chortle \n“Unique and hilarious” - BUZZ Magazine \n  \n \nSully O'Sullivan\nSully O'Sullivan has been declared a highlight of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival by The NZ Herald\, a highlight of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival by The Scotsman\, featured on Australian TV’s The Comedy Channel\, hosted a sellout standup tour of Croatia\, won Canada’s annual Improvaganza Tournament\, and completed 2 UK national tours supporting cult Heavy Metal Comic Steve Hughes. \nFirst stepping onto a standup stage in June 1998\, Sully's talent gained instant recognition as he won his first national standup award less than 12 months later. 9 years on he’s featured in four seasons of New Zealand’s award winning TV standup showcase 'Pulp Comedy'\, been nominated for the NZ Comedy Industry's supreme award by the NZ Comedy Trust\, and nominated by his fellow performers for the title of NZ's Best MC. \n“Amazing” - NME \n“A blast of hilarity” - Manchester Evening News \n“A wicked sense of humour” - BBC \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle. \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 per person if bought in advance\, or £12 on the day. DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Steve Gribbin\, Tom Taylor\, and host Pete Otway\nShow details:\n \nSteve Gribbin\nSteve Gribbin is a diminutive guitar-wielding satirist from Liverpool whose scabrous comedy songs and off the wall observations have made him one of the firm favourites of the comedy circuit. \nSteve’s original comedy songs combine razor sharp lyrics with tunes that put their foot in the door of your mind and refuse to leave. Firmly based in rock ‘n’ roll and refusing to pull no punches\, these are not the ‘oh so witty’ ditties of penguin-suited plink plonk piano playing posh gobs. They are that rarity – comedy songs which are actually funny. \nFor nine years Steve was the smaller one in the dynamic comedy duo Skint Video\, stalwart’s of the Edinburgh Festival\, appearing on countless television programmes such as Saturday Live\, radio such as The Mary Whitehouse Experience\, and their own show in 1992/3 Songlines (BBC Radio 1). Skint Video went their different ways in 1993\, since then Steve has been storming across the UK and Ireland as a solo artiste. \n“A comic animated by proper passion... a trenchant treat” - The Guardian \n“You can count the number of truly imaginative comic singers currently on the circuit on the fingers of one hand. One of this select band is Steve Gribbin” - Time Out \n“Satirical songs are hard to pull off successfully\, but if anyone can do it\, Steve Gribbin can. In fact\, he pulls it off with real aplomb” - The Independent \n  \n \nTom Taylor\n2015 Yorkshire Comedian of the Year\nMulti-award winning comedian Tom Taylor has received high praise from audiences and critics alike. His unique brand of musical comedy is smart and silly in equal measure and he can boast an impressive stock of quirky\, and very funny\, musical one-liners. \nIn 2013 Tom reached the final of the prestigious So You Think You're Funny? competition\, previously won by Dylan Moran\, Lee Mack and Peter Kay. In 2014\, he reached the final of the Hobgoblin Comedy Award and\, the following year\, won the inaugural Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year competition. \nRecently\, Tom has performed on Radio 2 and Radio 4 Extra as part of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award and has supported Simon Munnery on tour. \n“His brand of nervous\, neurotic musical comedy is an absolute delight” - The Skinny \n  \n \nPete Otway\nSince starting to perform in 2010\, Pete Otway has quickly gained momentum\, establishing himself as an extremely strong new act. As comfortable and confident as an MC as he is an act\, he is booked regularly to do both\, and was a recent finalist in the 2012 BBC New Comedy Awards. \nWith an affable and conversational style\, mixed with an energetic stage manner and original writing\, Pete is quickly making a name for himself on the UK circuit\, and is certainly one to watch. \n “Devastatingly funny” - Chortle \n“Amiable\, cheeky classic stand-up” - Liverpool Echo \n“An amazing comedy talent\, and we are making sure we are making sure we follow his every move in his ever rising career” - Crispy Comedy Club \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle.
