Hilarity Bitesize New Act & New Material Night, with Sam Avery, Alex Hylton, host Rick Molland & support
Show details:
Sam Avery
Sam Avery wanted to be a rock star. It nearly happened.
Despite being signed up by BMG Records at the age of 17 (he had to resign from his beloved paper round), and subsequent tours with Motorhead and Ice T, the story soon took a familiar turn. Contracts were anulled, money was stolen and before he knew it he was back at the paper shop asking for his fluorescent bag back. He had crap hair anyway.
Subsequent jobs (including a brief stint as a stockbroker) failed to excite him the way the smell of sweat and snakebite had and it wasn't long before he turned to stand-up, soon making the final of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition, and finishing runner-up in the City Life North-West Comedian of the Year competition.
Friendly and enthusiastic, his observational style instantly puts audiences at ease allowing him to regale them with his tales of everyday life. Sam has gained a reputation for being able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere.
Sam is also known as The Learner Parent, the blog that he started which has lead to a best-selling book and sold-out UK tour.
“Quick wit and painfully funny” - Metro
“A must” - Sunday Times
“A gifted storyteller” - The List
Alex Hylton
'Best Show' Leicester Comedy Festival 2020 - Winner
Alex Hylton is one of the fastest rising comics in the Midlands and a presenter and writer for BlueMoonRisingTv. A youthful, energetic new act with relatable anecdotes of adolescence, mixing in one-liners and a smudge of surrealism to create a likable and unique style, Alex is tipped by many to go all the way.
“Hylton takes charge of a room, fluent and funny storytelling is second nature to this comic” - Wee Review
“Well crafted, vivid storytelling performed with commitment” - Three Weeks
“A hilarious abundance of energy” - The Recs
Rick Molland
Not many Englishmen can cut it as an MC in a Scottish Comedy Club - but that's exactly what Rick Molland did every weekend of the year for years.
An award winning film maker and former Scottish Comedian of the Year runner-up, having proven his comedy metal in some of the most formidable environments Scotland has to offer, including T in the Park, Rockness, and The Wickerman Festivals, Rick Molland is the former resident compère at Edinburgh's Monkey Barrel Comedy Club.
“no-holds-barred comedy” - Edinburgh Evening News
“perfect for the role of compere” - Three Weeks
