SUMMARY:Darlington\, November 1st 2025
DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Steve Gribbin\, Lauren Pattison\, Howard Anstock and host Carl Jones\nShow details:\n \nSteve Gribbin\nSteve Gribbin is a diminutive guitar-wielding satirist from Liverpool whose scabrous comedy songs and off the wall observations have made him one of the firm favourites of the comedy circuit. \nSteve’s original comedy songs combine razor sharp lyrics with tunes that put their foot in the door of your mind and refuse to leave. Firmly based in rock ‘n’ roll and refusing to pull no punches\, these are not the ‘oh so witty’ ditties of penguin-suited plink plonk piano playing posh gobs. They are that rarity – comedy songs which are actually funny. \nFor nine years Steve was the smaller one in the dynamic comedy duo Skint Video\, stalwart’s of the Edinburgh Festival\, appearing on countless television programmes such as Saturday Live\, radio such as The Mary Whitehouse Experience\, and their own show in 1992/3 Songlines (BBC Radio 1). Skint Video went their different ways in 1993\, since then Steve has been storming across the UK and Ireland as a solo artiste. \n“A comic animated by proper passion... a trenchant treat” - The Guardian \n“You can count the number of truly imaginative comic singers currently on the circuit on the fingers of one hand. One of this select band is Steve Gribbin” - Time Out \n“Satirical songs are hard to pull off successfully\, but if anyone can do it\, Steve Gribbin can. In fact\, he pulls it off with real aplomb” - The Independent \n  \n \nLauren Pattison\nEdinburgh Best Newcomer Nominee 2017\, Lauren is a comedian\, actor and writer. Her TV appearances include two episodes of Comedy Central at the Comedy Store (Comedy Central)\, Roast Battle (Comedy Central)\, hosting an episode of Takeshi’s Castle (Comedy Central)\, The Dog Ate My Homework (CBBC)\, The Great Christmas Rant (ITV2)\, The Blame Game (BBC One Northern Ireland) and internationally on New Zealand’s 7 Days (TV3)\, Australia’s Comedy Up Late (ABC) and Canada’s The Stand Up Show with Katherine Ryan (The Comedy Network Canada). As an actor her credits include Drunk History (Comedy Central)\, Jerk (BBC3)\, and Climaxed (BBC3). \nShe can currently be heard hosting the critically acclaimed weekly podcast Conversations Against Living Miserably\, produced by the TV channel Dave in partnership with the Campaign Against Living Miserably. Now in its second series\, the podcast has had guests including Richard Gadd\, Jenny Eclair\, Lou Sanders\, Dane Baptiste and Stu Goldsmith. The Guardian described the show as “funny\, kind and thought-provoking.” \nIn 2017\, Lauren sold out her debut run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her critically acclaimed show Lady Muck. On top of her Best Newcomer nomination\, Lauren won the prestigious Herald Angel Award and was nominated for Amused Moose Best Comedy Show. The 5-star show was the best-reviewed show at The Pleasance that year and was so popular that she added three extra sold-out shows. The success of the show saw it go on to a six-night sold-out run at London’s Soho Theatre\, as well as runs at the Perth and Adelaide Fringe in Australia and the Auckland Comedy Festival in New Zealand. \nA sought after act\, Lauren is a regular at all the major national comedy clubs and has provided tour support for Katherine Ryan\, Jason Manford\, Kerry Godliman\, Stewart Francis and Dane Baptiste\, as well as gracing the comedy stages of Latitude and Reading and Leeds Festivals. \n“a star of the future ... Lauren Pattison looks set for fame” - The List \n“Even when packing a punch\, her demeanour is breezy\, frank and friendly\, making her wickedly engaging company... a fully equipped comedian” - Chortle \n“Fast\, forthright and filthy” - The Guardian \n  \n \nHoward Anstock\nAfter only starting his comedy career in 2017\, it was not long before Howard won his first accolade as the Cheshire Cat Comedy New Act 2018\, closely followed by being awarded the Kung-fu Pug Comedy New Act 2019. \nHoward was then a Great Yorkshire Fringe New Act finalist 2019 and Beat the Frog World Series semi-finalist in 2019. With deeply personal material\, that mixes anecdotes and experiences\, Howard has been described as “an acidic Victoria Wood”. From being homeless to being humorous\, Howard is at the start of an exciting comedy journey! \n“Can write and tell the perfect joke\, perfectly!” - Rich Wilson \n“Absolutely terrific\, a performance that went like clockwork\, everything landed” - Notts Comedy Review \n  \n \nCarl Jones\nMidlands comic Carl Jones first hit the circuit in 2011\, winning the Nottingham Comedy Festival Best Newcomer in his first handful of gigs. Since then\, he’s performed and written for the BBC’s comedy output and is a regular at some of the top comedy clubs across the UK. \nWith a growing reputation as an engaging storytelling comedian and welcoming MC who is able to play a variety of rooms\, he is a regular opener\, middle\, closer and host for a wide range of comedy clubs of all sizes across the UK. \nA huge football fan\, he’s also released two books about the beautiful game and can be heard interviewing comedy pals on his own Premier League nostalgia podcast When Football Began Again. \n“Very funny... a breezily entertaining half-hour from a likeable comic” - Chortle \n“The audience loved him from start to finish. His natural comic story-telling ability had them hanging on every word” - Hot Water Comedy \n“From the moment he came to the microphone\, he made the audience feel at home. Sharp\, quick on his feet and completely good-natured\, Carl set the audience up for a great night of comedy. Would highly recommend him as an MC for any occasion” - Stand Up at The Studio \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £12 each. SUMMARY:Topcliffe\, November 6th 2025
DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Sam Avery\, David Eagle\, and host Carl Jones\nShow details:\n \nSam Avery\nSam Avery wanted to be a rock star. It nearly happened. \nDespite being signed up by BMG Records at the age of 17 (he had to resign from his beloved paper round)\, and subsequent tours with Motorhead and Ice T\, the story soon took a familiar turn. Contracts were anulled\, money was stolen and before he knew it he was back at the paper shop asking for his fluorescent bag back. He had crap hair anyway. \nSubsequent jobs (including a brief stint as a stockbroker) failed to excite him the way the smell of sweat and snakebite had and it wasn't long before he turned to stand-up\, soon making the final of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition\, and finishing runner-up in the City Life North-West Comedian of the Year competition. \nFriendly and enthusiastic\, his observational style instantly puts audiences at ease allowing him to regale them with his tales of everyday life. Sam has gained a reputation for being able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm\, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere. \nSam is also known as The Learner Parent\, the blog that he started which has lead to a best-selling book and sold-out UK tour. \n“Quick wit and painfully funny” - Metro \n“A must” - Sunday Times \n“A gifted storyteller” - The List \n  \n \nDavid Eagle\nIn 2018 David began performing stand up comedy. He was awarded the New Act Of The Year prize at 2018’s Nottingham Comedy Festival. In 2019 he won Bath Comedy Festival’s New Comedian Of The Year and the Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian Of The Year. \nIn 2022 David performed stand up on BBC Radio 4’s topical comedy programme The Now Show. He frequently supports Boothby Graffoe on tour\, and he also starred in Tony Law and Phil Nichol’s improvised 2019 Edinburgh Fringe show. \nDavid is one third of three-time BBC Radio 2 folk Award winning band The Young’uns. You may have heard them performing on BBC Radio 2 and 3\, or maybe seen them on BBC’s Springwatch. They’ve also done a couple of documentaries for BBC Radio 4. Or perhaps – and granted\, this is unlikely\, but maybe – you heard them in the Aardman Animations film Itch of the Golden Nit\, in which they played the role of Vic Reeves’ pirate backing band. They perform at venues and festivals in the UK and all over the world\, including Cambridge Folk Festival and Glastonbury\, where they played on stage with Billy Bragg. \n“a comic tour de force” - The Guardian \n“David Eagle is a genuine stand up rookie phenomenon! Looking forward to hearing more” - Reginald D. Hunter \n“Brilliant\, nuts\, heartily recommend” - Rufus Hound \n  \n \nCarl Jones\nMidlands comic Carl Jones first hit the circuit in 2011\, winning the Nottingham Comedy Festival Best Newcomer in his first handful of gigs. Sharp\, quick on his feet and completely good-natured\, Carl set the audience up for a great night of comedy. Would highly recommend him as an MC for any occasion” - Stand Up at The Studio \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle. \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £12 per person if bought in advance\, or £15 on the door.
