SUMMARY:York\, October 3rd 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Jonny Awsum\, Bethany Black\, Peter Brush\, and host Sam Avery\nShow details:\n \nJonny Awsum\n2017 Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist\nA comedic whirlwind\, Jonny Awsum has a special feel-good brand of musical comedy. He is the gag slinging guitar hero - audience members don’t just leave entertained\, they leave as fans. \nIn 2017 Jonny was broadcast to huge acclaim on the nation’s biggest-rating ITV show\, Britain’s Got Talent. Performing alongside Ant & Dec\, Jonny won a standing ovation from the theatre audience\, a unanimous vote of approval from the judges and was seen by 11 million TV viewers. Jonny made it all the way to the Live Semi-Finals\, where he performed a musical extravaganza with David Walliams. Jonny loved the whole experience\, his profile recieved a well earned boost\, and his performances on the show have been viewed more than 30 million times on YouTube. \nJonny has been traversing the UK and indeed the world\, armed with an impressive arsenal of jokes and his trusty guitar. He’s a must for comedy clubs\, as his crowd-pleasing set sees Jonny regularly ending his sets to standing ovations and demands of an encore. \n“Awsum's exuberance is infectious\, pumping out into the crowd and lifting everyone's spirits… totally frivolous” - The List \n“Jonny Awsum positively smashed this musical comedy show\, taking the audience all the way with him. It's a dead simple\, but absolutely cracking show. That’s entertainment” - ★★★★ - Chortle \n“Awsum knows exactly how to get the crowd on board right from the start - he'll get you laughing from deep within your belly” - ★★★★★ - Three Weeks \n  \n \nBethany Black\nBethany Black has been a professional stand-up comedian since 2004. Her debut show 'Beth Becomes Her' detailed the story of her being transgender\, chronicling everything from her coming out through her transition and eventually falling in love. It was nominated for Best Debut at the Leicester Comedy Festival in 2008\, eventually losing out to Sarah Millican. \nOver the course of her career Beth has performed alongside some of the biggest names in comedy\, including Alan Carr\, Sarah Millican\, Tim Minchin and Rhys Darby. \nIn late 2017 / early 2018 Beth filmed the role of Pocahantas for No Offence. Prior to which\, in 2015 she was cast as Helen in Russell T. Davies multi channel shows Cucumber\, Banana\, and Tofu\, where she was the first trans actress to play a leading role. In late 2015\, Beth played 474 in Doctor Who. \n“Her journey to Channel Four\, ‘Doctor Who’ and steadily rising star status makes for hilarious if sometimes incredulous listening” - ✭✭✭✭✭ - Three Weeks \n“Honest\, to the point\, and very\, very funny” - ✭✭✭✭ - Arts Award Voice \n“The anecdotes are pitched perfectly... very funny” - Chortle \n  \n \nPeter Brush\nA highly distinctive performer and deft writer of finely crafted jokes\, Peter Brush unassumingly takes the stage with his slight bespectacled frame and scruffy hair\, before consummately conquering it with an arsenal of razor sharp quirky one-liners and peerlessly original routines\, all delivered in an amusingly awkward fashion. \nPeter performs at all the major clubs across the UK\, as well as having done many of it’s biggest festivals\, he has also played shows in Switzerland\, Norway and Hungary. Formerly a BBC New Comedy Award finalist\, he has written for several BBC Radio 4 shows and was the support act for Alexei Sayle’s most recent tour. Other acts he has supported on tour include Jonathan Pie\, Jason Manford\, Fern Brady\, Arthur Smith and Paul Sinha. \n“compellingly hilarious... first-class gag writing... an original and achingly funny voice” - ★★★★½ - Chortle \n“I love Peter Brush\, what a comic” - Jason Manford \n“unique observations and connections that stand-ups crave” - The Guardian \n“He’s a great comic” - BBC Radio 4 Saturday Review \n  \n \nSam Avery\nSam Avery wanted to be a rock star. It nearly happened. \nDespite being signed up by BMG Records at the age of 17 (he had to resign from his beloved paper round)\, and subsequent tours with Motorhead and Ice T\, the story soon took a familiar turn. Contracts were anulled\, money was stolen and before he knew it he was back at the paper shop asking for his fluorescent bag back. He had crap hair anyway. \nSubsequent jobs (including a brief stint as a stockbroker) failed to excite him the way the smell of sweat and snakebite had and it wasn't long before he turned to stand-up\, soon making the final of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition\, and finishing runner-up in the City Life North-West Comedian of the Year competition. \nFriendly and enthusiastic\, his observational style instantly puts audiences at ease allowing him to regale them with his tales of everyday life. Sam has gained a reputation for being able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm\, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere. \nSam is also known as The Learner Parent\, the blog that he started which has lead to a best-selling book and sold-out UK tour. \n“Quick wit and painfully funny” - Metro \n“A must” - Sunday Times \n“A gifted storyteller” - The List \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7:30pm\nShow starts: 8pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £15 per person\, with doors opening at 7pm and the show starting at 8pm.
