SUMMARY:Bishop Auckland\, April 21st 2023
DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. John Scott\, Chris Cantrill\, and host Jon Pearson\nShow details:\nReplacing Raymond Mearns:\n \nJohn Scott\nMulti-award winning Scotsman John Scott took his first tentative steps into stand up in 1999 and just 3 months after his first appearance found himself doing his first run at the Edinburgh Festival. \nSince then\, John has appeared at a further five festivals\, and returned this year with a brand new show. In the meantime\, he picked up the Spike Milligan award for new talent in 2003 and then paired that up with the Take the Mic award at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe - the richest prize in UK comedy. \nResident in Newcastle\, he now finds himself a favourite with audiences around the country as he headlines and MCs at all the major clubs around the UK and has gigged as far afield as the Middle East. \n“A genuinely gifted comedian” - Adelaide Rocks \n“Always plays a blinder. Never hits a dry patch. People were literally in tears of laughter” - The Observer \n“Confidently told hilarious tales of class-based woe\, nothing missed the mark in a superb set where every story was expertly crafted before being subverted with a killer punch line” - The Sun \n  \n \nChris Cantrill\nChris Cantrill is a comedian\, writer and actor hailing from West Yorkshire but now resident in the North East. His unique delivery mixes lightly surreal observations with densely packed quick-fire jokes. \nSince making his television debut on Harry Hill’s Clubnite (Channel 4)\, Chris has frequently appeared in productions for TV including Alma’s Not Normal (BBC 2)\, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared (Channel 4)\, The Emily Atack Show (ITV 2). He has a BBC Radio 4 series in development and has written for Dave\, Channel 4\, BBC Radio 2\, Cbeebies and CBBC. \nAs half of the acclaimed sketch double act The Delightful Sausage\, Chris has been twice nominated for the ‘Best Show’ award at the Edinburgh Festival (2019 and 2022). Chris and Amy have appeared on Harry Hill’s Clubnite (Channel 4)\, Question Team (Dave) and as series regulars for Late Night Mash (Dave). They’ve also had their own special on BBC Radio 2 (The Delightful Sausage on: Staycations) and web series for Dave (Great Britain: Wide Open & Ready). \n“Absolutely inspired” - ★★★★★ - Fest Magazine \n“One of the best voices for comedy on the circuit” - ★★★★ - Chortle \n“A devotion to finding the funny” - ★★★★ - The Times \n  \n \nJon Pearson\nJon began standup comedy in 2010\, with his first performance at Birmingham’s Highlight Comedy Club. Cut to the present and Jon has become a regular face on the circuit\, performing at prestigious clubs such as The Glee\, The Boat Show & The Comedy Store\, Jon’s career has even taken him overseas with performances in Spain\, Norway and even as far away as Wigan (it is like being on another planet). \nJon is also a familiar face on at comedy festivals across the UK having taken three solo shows to the Leicester\, Nottingham & Edinburgh festivals with the highlight of the all coming in the form of a sold out show at his home town Melton Theatre in Melton Mowbray. \nJon has also provided tour support for Darren Harriot on his UK 2018/2019 tour and Lucy Porter on her UK 2017 tour. Jon’s laid back storytelling has audiences hanging on his every word. SUMMARY:Husthwaite\, April 27th 2023
DESCRIPTION:Hilarity Bites Comedy Club feat. Sam Avery\, Ant Dewson\, and host Sully O’Sullivan\nShow details:\n \nSam Avery\nSam Avery wanted to be a rock star. It nearly happened. \nDespite being signed up by BMG Records at the age of 17 (he had to resign from his beloved paper round)\, and subsequent tours with Motorhead and Ice T\, the story soon took a familiar turn. Contracts were anulled\, money was stolen and before he knew it he was back at the paper shop asking for his fluorescent bag back. He had crap hair anyway. \nSubsequent jobs (including a brief stint as a stockbroker) failed to excite him the way the smell of sweat and snakebite had and it wasn't long before he turned to stand-up\, soon making the final of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year competition\, and finishing runner-up in the City Life North-West Comedian of the Year competition. \nFriendly and enthusiastic\, his observational style instantly puts audiences at ease allowing him to regale them with his tales of everyday life. Sam has gained a reputation for being able to spark the dullest of rooms into life with his warm\, infectious humour and quick wit which makes him ideal as either an act or compere. \nSam is also known as The Learner Parent\, the blog that he started which has lead to a best-selling book and sold-out UK tour. \n“Quick wit and painfully funny” - Metro \n“A must” - Sunday Times \n“A gifted storyteller” - The List \n  \n \nAnt Dewson\nAnt Dewson performs at some of the top comedy clubs in the country\, from The Stand in Edinburgh to Up The Creek and Angel in London\, He’s shared the stage with some great comedians including Mickey Flanagan\, Lee Mack and Noel Fielding. He’s also shared the stage with some right shockers\, all of whom he is too polite to name here. \nAnt is a regular on BBC Radio London and was the co-host of Carpet Martin’s Comedy Market on Riverside Radio. He also writes comedy for shows on BBC Radio 4 and Sky One. \nAfter a recent Hilarity Bites show in Ripon\, a member of the audience messaged him to say\, “you even made my teenage daughter laugh which she hasn’t done since she hit puberty.” \n“Genuinely funny... very clever... filthy” - Three Weeks \n“Highlight of the night” - Tom Robinson\, BBC 6Music \n“A musical comedy feast” - ★★★★ - The Skinny \n  \n \nSully O'Sullivan\nSully O'Sullivan has been declared a highlight of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival by The NZ Herald\, a highlight of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival by The Scotsman\, featured on Australian TV’s The Comedy Channel\, hosted a sellout standup tour of Croatia\, won Canada’s annual Improvaganza Tournament\, and completed 2 UK national tours supporting cult Heavy Metal Comic Steve Hughes. \nFirst stepping onto a standup stage in June 1998\, Sully's talent gained instant recognition as he won his first national standup award less than 12 months later. 9 years on he’s featured in four seasons of New Zealand’s award winning TV standup showcase 'Pulp Comedy'\, been nominated for the NZ Comedy Industry's supreme award by the NZ Comedy Trust\, and nominated by his fellow performers for the title of NZ's Best MC. \n“Amazing” - NME \n“A blast of hilarity” - Manchester Evening News \n“A wicked sense of humour” - BBC \n  \nThis show will also feature a newer act in the middle. \n  \nNote: Line-ups are subject to change in extreme\, and unavoidable\, circumstances.\nShow may contain strong language and adult themes.\n  \n\nTimings\nDoors open: 7pm\nShow starts: 7:30pm \n\nBuy tickets:\nTickets for this show are £10 each and can be bought from the link below\, or contact the venue directly.
